Schwarzenberg Palace (Schwarzenberský palác)
Schwarzenberg Palace or also Lobkowicz Palace is a Renaissance palace at Hradcany Square in Prague.
History
Today, three-winged building was built between 1545-1567 under the direction of Agostino Galli (also called Augustin Vlach), an urban palace Jana younger Popel of Lobkowicz the burnt several medieval houses. This is significant, and relatively early Renaissance building whose facades are designed using rich decor of the built graffito. Characteristic is the use of massive, largely podvojných windows with carved Renaissance linings, huge deck and lunette cornice, richly structured and decorated with Renaissance gables. The interiors have been preserved valuable renaissance wall paintings dating from around 1580.
In 1590, was acquired by the George Popel of Lobkowicz, who was in 1594, along with the entire property confiscated for lèse-majesté. Rudolf II. Palace then swapped with Petr Vok of Rosenberg Rosenberg palace nearby. In the exilic period, the palace was confiscated again and Ferdinand II. it gave Johann Ulrich von Eggenberg. After the extinction of the family inherited the palace, along with the rest of the Czech Eggenbergs property, in 1719 the Schwarzenberg family, who to him in 1811 also joined the newly acquired neighboring Salmovský palace.
In the first quarter of the 18th century, the palace, especially in the interiors of the Baroque style, but these probably fairly significant adjustments, greatly wiped purist reconstruction in the late 19th century.
The museum at the palace
From 1909 to 1941, rented the premises of the National Technical Museum.
After the communist coup in 1948, the palace was converted into a military history museum. In 2002 the palace passed into the possession of the National Gallery in Prague. Then there was total reconstruction since 2008 and serves as a permanent exhibition of the National Gallery (Art Collection Renaissance, Mannerism and Baroque in the Czech Republic).
